Título seminário: “Understanding the Sources of Xen Virtualization Overhead”

Virtual machines provide a suitable environment to consolidate multiple services into few physical machines. Nevertheless, in order to migrate applications from physical machines to virtualized consolidated platforms, one needs to be able to estimate the performance these applications will achieve on the new environment. In this context, understanding the sources of virtualization overhead and quantifying this overhead is crucial for the deployment and configuration of applications in a virtual environment. In this work, we present a performance evaluation of the Xen environment aiming at identifying the most important aspects of the overhead imposed on applications by the virtual system.
